The City of Urbana, Ohio is seeking applicants for the part-time position of Victim Advocate. This position is grant funded at $17 per hour with weekly hours not to exceed 27.5 hours Monday - Friday.  Read more below & apply today. 

The Victim Advocate is responsible for providing assistance to victims of crime after referral by law enforcement in conjunction with pending misdemeanor, traffic and felony cases in Municipal Court. This position reports directly to the Prosecuting Attorney and works directly with law enforcement agencies to ensure the needs of victims are met. Educates victims about court procedures; keeps victims and witnesses informed as to court dates and other case-related information; and accompanies victims to court when requested. Assesses victim needs and provides information and referrals for follow-up services; keeps accurate statistical records of victim contacts. Collects information with respect to immediate needs such as protection orders, housing and medical concerns, and restitution for damages. Responsible for maintaining victim brochures and accurate community resources; ability to apply logic in a multi-tasking environment; comprehends and processes new information quickly and accurately; attends monthly support and training meetings. Training in compliance with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office required upon hire.

The qualifications for this position include the following:
 High School Diploma or Equivalent; Associates Degree in related field preferred;
 1-3 years job-related experience (victim advocacy and/or paralegal experience preferred);
 Knowledge/familiarity with Marsy’s Law and its applications, and the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA);
 Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, law enforcement personnel, community organizations, and the public;
 Possess sensitivity and excellent communication skills in working with crime victims;
 Knowledge of court/legal policies, procedure, and operations;
 Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information;
 Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and have a good driving record;
 Must have reliable transportation with motor vehicle insurance.

The selected candidate must successfully complete the following:
 Background Investigation.
 Pre-employment Drug Screen.
