Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is now hiring a part-time Traffic Maintenance Engineer (paid internship)! They are looking for a student currently majoring in Civil or Electrical Engineering.

Responsibilities:

• Site visits and data collection for sign requests and speed studies
• Data collection for asset management 
• School Bus Stop Ahead program update
• School Zone Flasher Timing program update
• Setting up mioVision camera for Safety requests and operations analysis for signal timing
• Sign work orders on non-complex requests
• Assisting Transportation Engineer 3 with more complex requests as needed
• Traffic signal warrants for overhead signal flashers & signals that failed to meet warrants in the past

Job Description:

• Under close supervision, assist in creating spreadsheets and paper filing system for all overhead sign supports in the district
• Set up files to include the following: elevation drawings, sign cut-sheet drawings, photo-log picture, sign inspection form, etc
• Create and organize a computer directory for signal information to include timings, drawings, syncro files, etc.
• Enter data on spreadsheets for net pavement marking contract, help organize signal shop for inventory.
• Help with lighting maintenance or pavement marking contracts to include project inspection (following contractor to record work performed)
• Inputting diaries into CMS, setting up new project folders.
• Answer phone
• Type letters
• Create spreadsheets
• Help with village sign program
• Perform field work (e.g., field logging, checking out a location, taking pictures, etc.)
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

This is a temporary position involving various duties that will either supplement the student's major field of study &/or provide experience that is a useful addition to the student's education and meaningful preparation for future professional employment.

Qualifications:
Must be currently enrolled in a college/university and in good academic standing prior to and during their entire appointment as a college intern

​​All College Interns are required to provide proof of enrollment, class status, and good academic standing with their college/university prior to beginning employment & throughout their time with ODOT in order to remain employed as a College Intern. Acceptable forms of documentation include an official or unofficial transcript with current class schedule. If a transcript cannot be obtained the student’s advisor shall complete & sign the College Intern Verification Form indicating enrollment, class rank & GPA.

Rate of pay is conditioned upon the student’s academic status (i.e., Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student), which is determined by the college/university. College Intern rate increase requests can be submitted to HR once an intern experiences a change in academic status (e.g.,
Junior to Senior.) The rate of pay must be determined in accordance with the following scale.

Academic Status Hourly Rate:
Freshman (1st year) and Sophomore (2nd year)- $15.46 
Junior (3rd year) and Senior (4th year)- $15.96
Graduate Students- $19.41

Work Hours: 7:00AM-3:30PM, may vary
