This program will be looking for an individual who can make a long-term commitment to learning a specialized job under the direct guidance of a journeyman engineer. The candidate must have the willingness and dedication to enroll in a specialized course curriculum that is directly related to the job skill sets.
The program is designed for a total of 8000 OJT hours with an additional 825 classroom hours over the span of the apprenticeship.
Primary Activities/Duties:

• Repair or maintain the operating condition of industrial production or processing machinery or equipment.
• Repair or replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery or equipment.
• Disassemble machinery or equipment to remove parts and make repairs.
• Observe and test the operation of machinery or equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using voltmeters or other testing devices.
• Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs.
• Clean, lubricate, or adjust parts, equipment, or machinery.
• Examine parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear.
• Operate newly repaired machinery or equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs.
• Analyze test results, machine error messages, or information obtained from operators to diagnose equipment problems.
• Record parts or materials used and order or requisition new parts or materials, as necessary.
• Record repairs and maintenance performed.
• Study blueprints or manufacturers' manuals to determine correct installation or operation of machinery.
• Cut and weld metal to repair broken metal parts, fabricate new parts, or assemble new equipment.
• Enter codes and instructions to program computer-controlled machinery.
• Demonstrate equipment functions and features to machine operators.

Educational Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required
• Any secondary education a plus
• Placement testing will be required for required Math and English classes

The Mechanicsburg Fire Department is currently seeking applicants for the position of Firefighter / EMT / EMT-I / Paramedic. Immediate openings for 12 hour and 24 hour shifts are available for all successful candidates completing the interviewing process along with successful completion of the regional EMS protocol written and practical test. All applicants must be 18 years or older. Possess a current valid Ohio drivers licenses along with current fire and EMS credentials.  
 
Firefighter/EMT pay scale is set at $13.00/hour.
Firefighter/EMT-I is set at $13.50/hour.
Firefighter/Paramedic pay scale is set at $14.00/ hour.
