The train made a stop in Columbus where the body of our President laid in state at the capital. From there it made its way to our very own, Champaign County, making a few stops along the way. Most notably, in Woodstock, where more almost 500 mourners turned out to pay their respects. The train departed, and made a few more stops including St. Paris, before finally arriving in Springfield, Illinois on May 3rd, 1895, nearly three weeks after his death. What an amazing piece of history that we can be proud of. Not receiving our content regularly? Make sure to FOLLOW US on Facebook and SIGN UP to get weekly recaps sent directly to your inbox.
