Freshwater Farms
Founded in 1983, Freshwater Farms of Ohio is family-owned and operated by 3 generations of the Smith family. Dr. Dave Smith and his father, Dick Smith, an electrical engineer, started the facility, a vertically integrated hatchery, grow-out, processing, marketing, and retail operation. The only producers of trout products in Ohio, the 5-acre farm is the state’s largest indoor fish hatchery, raising up to 100,000 pounds of fish yearly. "Local law enforcement participated on Tuesday morning in the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) to assist the Special Olympics of Ohio.
Special Olympians and officers streamed together through downtown Urbana in commemoration of the achievements and abilities of local citizens. According to the Special Olympics website, the mission of the Law Enforcement Torch Run is to raise funds for and awareness of the Special Olympics movement. Special Olympics is a program which reaffirms the belief that, with hope and dedication, all can see achievement and self-worth realized by any individual. Persons with intellectual disabilities, by their involvement in Special Olympics, show the community at large there are no limits to human potential or the human spirit. The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Ohio is a partnership between Special Olympics and law enforcement agencies throughout the state. Over the course of a week in late June, officers join together to bike, run, walk, through 41 counties in Ohio, carrying the Flame of Hope into Columbus to ignite the ceremonial cauldron to officially begin the Special Olympics Ohio State Summer Games. "City and county officials, as well as members of the investment group and management of Cobblestone Hotels, broke ground on Tuesday for the three-story, 54-room hotel planned to be built at 170 state Route 55. Investment committee co-chair Terry Howell said that construction will likely begin on the 10,500-square-foot building by the end of July, with a projected completion date of May 2020.
“If you can use your imagination and look out into the center of this open area and imagine a beautiful, three-story Cobblestone hotel, it’s going to be a wonderful piece of the puzzle that we keep talking about for the continued development of Urbana,” said investment committee co-chair Mike Major. “We’re really excited about that. "Bundy Baking Solutions, a leading maker of commercial and consumer baking equipment, products and services, with U.S. headquarters in Urbana, has become the Champaign Economic Partnership’s (CEP) newest Champion Level partner investor.
The CEP is a public-private partnership of local government, business and education, formed to help businesses get started, expand, create jobs and develop workforce in Champaign County. “As one of the larger employers in our area that’s had roots in the community since 1967, it’s important for us to have a role in moving the partnership and economic development forward,” says Tom Coles, the company’s Vice President of Human Resources.
