Mercy Health – Urbana Hospital is now using new, state-of-the-art Phaco equipment to offer cataract surgeries to patients in Springfield, Urbana, and neighboring communities.

Cataracts result in the clouding of the lens of the eyeball, preventing clear images from appearing on the eye’s retina. This can result in mild, moderate, or even severely blurred vision. The Phaco equipment, also known as phacoemulsification, uses laser-assistance to dissolve and remove the
cataract, while simultaneously inserting fluid to maintain the correct pressure within the eye. It’s the latest and most advanced method of performing cataract surgery and is far more precise than traditional methods because it utilizes a computer-guided laser.
