The Story of Chasing Greatness: Helping Kids Hear Their Own Potential

In a world full of noise, Chasing Greatness exists to make sure every child can hear what matters most: encouragement, opportunity, and the belief that they belong.

​Founded by Jonni Parker, a hearing-impaired student-athlete and volleyball coach, Chasing Greatness is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting kids 18 and under who are experiencing hearing loss. From providing hearing aids to raising awareness and building confidence, the organization helps children hear—not just the world around them, but their own potential.

​A Story Worth Hearing
Jonni’s journey began long before she became a standout Division I volleyball player at Penn State. She’s worn hearing aids since she was a child and knows firsthand what it feels like to navigate a world not always built for you. But instead of letting hearing loss hold her back, Jonni used it to fuel her drive.

After graduating in 2022 with a degree in Early Childhood Education, she brought that passion to the court as a coach at Munciana Volleyball Club and Carmel High School—and to life, through the founding of Chasing Greatness.

“I started Chasing Greatness because my family and I have firsthand experience with the daunting finances that surround hearing care for children. I understand how much a pair of hearing aids can change a child’s world.”

Changing Lives, One Ear at a Time
Chasing Greatness partners with Family Audiology & Hearing Centers to provide support, resources, and hearing care to kids who might not otherwise be able to afford it. The process is more than medical—it’s emotional. Families receive not only financial help but also a sense of community and encouragement.

Parents like Staci Cavezza, whose daughter received support from the organization, have spoken about the life-changing impact. “They didn’t just give her hearing aids. They gave her confidence,” she said.

​And that’s the heart of the mission—empowering kids to live boldly, play freely, and dream without limitations.

More Than Medical—It’s Personal
Chasing Greatness also focuses on building life skills, leadership, and personal growth. Through sports, mentoring, and storytelling, they help kids grow into strong, resilient individuals who know their worth and believe in their future.
They also run engaging community events like:

• Golf scrambles
• Silent auctions
• “Silent Sets”, where fans and spectators are encouraged to remain completely silent during the first nine points of the match. Fans cheer using sign language for the first nine points and can finally cheer as loud as possible once the 9th point occurs.

These events raise both awareness and funds—and remind everyone that hearing loss is something we can support, not ignore.

A Vision for the Future
With Jonni at the helm, Chasing Greatness is just getting started. As a coach, advocate, and role model, she’s building a movement rooted in lived experience, compassion, and courage.

“Greatness comes in many forms,” she says. “Sometimes, it starts with being able to hear the words ‘you can do this.’"
