Grimes Field Announces Exciting Lineup of 2025 Events

​Grimes Field has released its highly anticipated 2025 event schedule, promising an exciting lineup of aviation-themed activities and community celebrations. From thrilling airshows to family-friendly events, aviation enthusiasts and local residents alike have plenty to look forward to this year.

​March
The season kicks off on March 22 with the RC Swap Meet and Workshops, where hobbyists can exchange radio-controlled aircraft parts and learn new skills.

On May 17, young aspiring pilots can take to the skies during EAA Chapter 9’s "Young

Eagles Day." Kids will receive free flights, giving them a chance to experience the thrill of aviation firsthand.

June
Grimes Field will host several major events in June, starting with the Grimes Flying Lab Paris Airshow 50th Anniversary Celebration on June 7. The excitement continues on June 8 and 9 as the Commemorative Air Force offers plane rides in their iconic C-47 "That’s All Brother."

A special highlight takes place on June 14 with the Champaign Aviation Museum Living History Flights, where visitors can fly aboard the historic B-25 "Champaign Gal." The month wraps up with more unique flying experiences on June 23 and 24, as the Commemorative Air Force presents plane rides in the TBM Avenger "Doris Mae."

July
Grimes Field will light up the skies on July 4 with the Urbana Rotary Club Chicken Dinner, followed by the Grimes Field Fireworks Festival and the Rotary Community Fireworks Display on July 5. Another Young Eagles Day hosted by EAA Chapter 421 will be held on July 12, once again offering free flights for kids.

August
The summer excitement concludes in August with two big events. On August 16, the Champaign County Balloon Festival, Fly-in, and Car Show will captivate guests with colorful hot air balloons and classic cars. To close out the summer, the Champaign Aviation Museum will host another Living History Flight on August 23, offering rides aboard the legendary B-25 "Champaign Gal."
