In the 1960s, Grimes Manufacturing Company acquired the Flying Lab Beech 18. This aircraft was used to test and demonstrate the company’s aviation lighting products. Today, the aircraft boasts over 75 Grimes Manufacturing aviation lighting systems. One notable historical highlight of the Flying Lab occurred in 1975, when the original pilot, Earl Bennet, flew solo to the Paris Air Show in France. This significant event coincided with Grimes Manufacturing securing a major contract with Airbus, further solidifying its reputation in the aviation industry.
Jessica Deere, the museum coordinator at the Grimes Flying Lab Foundation, invites the community to visit the museum, open every Saturday from 10 AM to 1 PM. Additionally, the Beech 18 will be attending events across the state throughout the year, weather permitting and subject to change.
