Community Invited to Become Lunch Buddies at Graham Elementary

​A new volunteer opportunity is launching at Graham Elementary School, inviting community members to make a meaningful difference in the lives of local students—one lunch conversation at a time.

The Lunch Buddy Program is part of a leadership project developed by Brooke Martinez, Director of Volunteer and Auxiliary Services at Mercy Health Urbana Hospital, and Valerie Henthorne, Real Estate Clerk for Champaign County Auditor -- current participants in Leadership Champaign County. 

The program connects caring, pre-approved volunteers with elementary students who may benefit from additional positive adult interaction during lunchtime. Volunteers simply sit with students, chat, listen, and help brighten their day. Organizers emphasize that even occasional participation—such as one lunch visit every month or two—can have a lasting impact.

Community members of all backgrounds are encouraged to get involved, including retirees, business owners, first responders, college students, and faith community members. A background check is required for all volunteers.
