The program connects caring, pre-approved volunteers with elementary students who may benefit from additional positive adult interaction during lunchtime. Volunteers simply sit with students, chat, listen, and help brighten their day. Organizers emphasize that even occasional participation—such as one lunch visit every month or two—can have a lasting impact.
Community members of all backgrounds are encouraged to get involved, including retirees, business owners, first responders, college students, and faith community members. A background check is required for all volunteers. Those interested in becoming a Lunch Buddy or learning more can contact Brooke Martinez at 937-523-5193 or [email protected]. Organizers hope the initiative will not only support students but also strengthen community connections across Champaign County—one conversation at a time. Not receiving our content regularly?
