The 24th annual Ohio Fish & Shrimp Music Festival, at Freshwater Farms of Ohio, gets off to an upbeat, jubilant start Saturday, September 12, with live music, performed on an outdoor stage by the region’s best bands, a delicious array of food, including fresh seafood, fun activities for the whole family, and for the first time in Champaign County, the Freshwater Games – a strength sports competition, in the Scottish Highland tradition.

This will be the first of three consecutive Saturdays of festivities at the fish farm, just north of Urbana, at 2624 N. U.S. 68, open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day.

Through a partnership with Library Ideas, LLC, Mechanicsburg Public Library joins libraries nationwide in providing streaming access to Pure Flix’s catalog of family-friendly entertainment.

The Champaign County Arts Council is bringing a holiday classic to life this December with “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play,” a new live dinner theater production featuring local actors, singers and Foley artists.

The production will take place December 11 and 12 at Brown Ridge Hall, 220 E. Court St. in Urbana.

Auditions Scheduled for SeptemberAuditions are scheduled for Sunday, September 27, or Monday, September 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. at 119 Miami St. in Urbana. Those auditioning may attend either session.

Participants should come prepared to read from the script and sing a simple holiday song, as some roles require singing.

Moviegoers in Urbana will have the opportunity to see Young Washington, a PG-13 action, adventure and biography film, at the Gloria Theatre beginning Friday, Aug. 28.

The film follows a young George Washington during the French and Indian War as he navigates shifting alliances, dangerous battles and difficult moral choices that help shape his future as a leader.

Young Washington presents a more vulnerable and human portrayal of Washington, focusing on his formative struggles rather than an idealized version of the future president.

The film stars William Franklyn-Miller, Ben Kingsley, Mary-Louise Parker, Kelsey Grammer and Andy Serkis.

The Ohio Fish & Shrimp Music Festival, on September 12, will host the first-ever Freshwater Games, competitive strength sports in the centuries-old Scottish Highland tradition, organized by Sticks and Stones Heavy Athletics.
