New Primary Care Provider Joins Mary Rutan Health

Mary Rutan Health welcomes Abdul Dada, MD, as a primary care provider at Mary Rutan Internal Medicine and the Mary Rutan Urbana Clinic. Dr. Dada is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is now accepting new patients at the Bellefontaine office, at 2231 Timber Trail, and the Urbana office, at 1880 E. US Hwy 36.

​Dr. Abdul Dada was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, to his parents, who were refugees. After finishing high school, he decided to stay in Columbus and become a Buckeye at The Ohio State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science. From there, he attended St. James School of Medicine in the Caribbean and later
earned his Doctor of Medicine. With an interest in primary care, he completed a family medicine residency in Chicago, Illinois, where he gained hands-on community medicine experience, including a special rotation in Medication Assisted Training (MAT). After his residency, Dr. Dada returned to Ohio to practice family medicine in Dresden. Dr. Dada is thrilled to join the expanding physician network at Mary Rutan Health.

Local band favorite Eleyet McConnell starts off the Ohio Fish & Shrimp Festival's musical entertainment on a good note.The International Singer-Songwriters Association recently awarded them gold for USA Band Single of the Year, for “Surrender,” from their album "Crazy World," which earned bronze for USA Band Album of the Year.
The 22nd annual Ohio Fish & Shrimp Festival at Freshwater Farms of Ohio, just north of Urbana, will offer guests an entertaining variety of live music to enjoy with food and beverages from a variety of food trucks and vendors, including seafood prepared by Freshwater Farms.

A total of 12 bands – four each day of the festival, Sept. 7, 14 and 21 – represent an array of genres, including rock, Celtic, American roots and bluegrass, Motown and funk, blues, and even polka with a punk rock inflection.

Other activities for kids and families include bounce houses, games, face painting, balloon sculptures, the farm’s sturgeon petting zoo and critter displays, trout feeding frenzy, Pirate Treasure Sand Dig, and vendors, including local merchants and artisans.

The Ohio School Safety Center is urging students, parents, and community members to use the statewide tip line to help keep schools safe. By calling or texting 844-723-3764, individuals can anonymously report anything suspicious or potentially harmful, including bullying, drugs, weapons, threats, gang activity, self-harm, and other concerns.

The tip line, known as the Safer Ohio School Tip Line, is available 24/7 to receive reports that could help prevent incidents and protect students, staff, and schools across Ohio. In addition to calls and texts, information and resources are available on their website at saferschools.ohio.gov.

The Greater Champaign County League of Women Voters will be hosting a voter registration drive at the Ohio Fish & Shrimp Festival on September 7, 14, and 21, 2024, from 10 AM to 6 PM at Freshwater Farms, 2624 US 68 in Urbana. As a nonpartisan organization dedicated to protecting and expanding voting rights, the League will provide voter registration forms, absentee ballot request forms, and guidance on checking voter registration status online. Festival attendees are encouraged to visit their booth to register and learn more.
