One of Urbana’s most beloved annual traditions is back! The 57th Annual Mid-Eastern Regional Fly-In, Car Show & Balloon Festival returns to Grimes Field at the Urbana Airport on Saturday, August 16, 2025, promising a full day of excitement, family fun, and aviation celebration from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
Admission is FREE until 4:00 PM, and there are no aircraft fees all weekend, making this a can’t-miss event for aviation enthusiasts, car lovers, and families alike! On Friday, July 18, 2025, the Champaign County Board of Developmental Disabilities (CCBDD) hosted its annual Touch A Truck event at 224 Patrick Avenue in Urbana. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., families came out to explore a wide variety of vehicles, meet local service workers, and enjoy a fun, interactive day.
Along with the vehicles, guests enjoyed hot dogs, chips, Kona Ice, and had fun with games like Plinko and Pick a Duck, plus temporary tattoos for kids. The event offered something for everyone and gave them the chance to get up close to big trucks, sit behind the wheel, and learn about the people who drive and operate them. Downtown Urbana will transform into a merry midsummer celebration during “DORA After Dark: Christmas in July” on Saturday, July 26 from 6–9 PM in Monument Square. Presented by local downtown businesses and vendors, the event brings a holiday twist to the heart of summer—complete with holiday deals, festive drinks, a moonlight market, and live music.
The event started as a collaboration between two local businesses and has grown to a much anticipated quarterly festivity, and a portion of every DORA cup sale goes to the renovation of the Monument Square District. 🎁 What to Expect: The Mechanicsburg Public Library is excited to announce a full lineup of engaging programs this August for all ages! Whether you’re looking for family fun, hands-on crafts, learning opportunities, or just a place to connect with the community, there's something for everyone on the calendar.
Here’s a preview of some of this month’s highlights: Practice Greenhealth, a leading sustainability member organization for hospital networks, has once again recognized Mercy Health – Springfield Regional Medical Center and Merch Health – Urbana Hospital with Partner for Change Awards. This recognition spotlights hospitals for superior performance in sustainability through a range of different programs and activities.
Community leaders, Chamber members, and Mary Rutan representatives joined together to mark the occasion and welcome this vital healthcare service to St. Paris.

Adam Groshans, market president of Mercy Health – Springfield, opened the session sharing insight into the national and statewide trends shaping care locally in Champaign County. Groshans, along with two members of his leadership team, also highlighted groundbreaking community programs and clinical advancements that are improving access and health outcomes across the region.
One major focus of the presentation was workforce development. Rhonda Beane, chief nursing officer, shared Mercy Health improved nurse retention by 40 percent from 2019 to 2025 – a testament to strategic investments in people and partnerships with local educational institutions. |
