Military students honored at largest Clark State SALUTE induction

Matthew Malcuit, lab assistant at Clark State, presents Mackenzie Strouth, a U.S. Marine Corps reservist and Clark State criminal justice-law enforcement student, with a certificate during the SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society induction ceremony.

Clark State College honored a record number of military-affiliated students as 15 active-duty service members, veterans, reservists and National Guard members were inducted into the SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society.

The largest SALUTE class in college history, the inductees were recognized not only for their military service, but also for their academic achievement, leadership and commitment to continued success in higher education.

Ribbon Cutting Held for Urbana GoBus Stop

On Friday, April 24, 2026, the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau hosted a ribbon cutting for Urbana’s new GoBus stop location at the City of Urbana public parking lot at 205 West Court Street. Community members and representatives from the City of Urbana; Urbana City Council; Champaign Transit System; Ohio Department of Transportation, Office of Transit; and HAPCAP/GoBus were in attendance.

City of Urbana Honored as a Tree City USA for the 24th Consecutive Year

On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the City of Urbana was recognized as a Tree City USA at the Central Ohio awards ceremony hosted by the City of Springfield at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts Center. This year’s award represents the 24th consecutive year that the City of Urbana has been honored and recognized as a Tree City USA.

West Liberty-Salem Schools proudly celebrated the Class of 2026 during the district’s 65th Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 24, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. Ninety-two seniors crossed the stage to receive their diplomas surrounded by family, friends, staff, and community members.

Historical Society Progresses in Best Practices Process

The Champaign County Historical Society (CCHS) received this certificate from the American Association for State and Local History for completing the basic performance indicators for the Mission, Vision, Governance section of The Standards and Excellence Program for History Organizations (STEPS). The CCHS also received a certificate for completing the basic performance indicators for Audience and Community Engagement.

While making physical improvements to the Champaign County Historical Society (CCHS) Museum—like new display cases that enhance exhibits—the CCHS has been progressing through a process to adopt recognized best practice standards for nonprofit history organizations.

The CCHS recently received two certificates that document its progress in The Standards and Excellence Program for History Organizations (STEPS), a program of the American Association for State and Local History.
