​A cornerstone of beauty, entrepreneurship, and community spirit in downtown Urbana is turning 25, and the public is invited to join the celebration. TommyBrooks Salon, a proudly woman-owned and woman-run business located at 123 N Main St, will host its 25th Anniversary Party on Saturday, June 14, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Guests can expect giveaways, light refreshments, and warm company as the salon honors its legacy and the clients who have been part of its journey.

Long before big-box stores and online shopping changed the retail landscape, local businesses were the heartbeat of small-town America—and for one West Liberty teen in the summer of 1967, that heartbeat came with a cash register bell, cotton twine, and seventy-five cents an hour.

In a recent post shared by the West Liberty Historical Society, resident Phillip A. King reflects on his first job after high school—a summer spent working at Saltz Men’s Wear on the town’s main street. The job wasn’t just a paycheck; it was a rite of passage.

​In May 2023, the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with local law enforcement agencies, launched an innovative program aimed at improving emergency response for residents with special needs. Known as the S.P.O.T. (Special Population Operations Team) Program, this initiative is designed to equip first responders with vital information before they arrive at a call, ultimately enhancing safety and communication during high-stress situations.

The dedicated volunteers behind the beloved event are hosting a Meet & Greet on Thursday, June 12, from 6:00–7:30 p.m. at the St. Paris Public Library, and the public is warmly invited.

This casual evening offers a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into organizing the holiday celebration—from brainstorming in January to planning throughout the year. Visitors can meet the “Christmas Crew,” ask questions, share ideas, enjoy light refreshments, and even sign up to get involved.

​The Champaign County Arts Council invites the community to experience a compelling dual exhibition, Art on 29: Opposite Sides of the Road, showcasing the works of regional artists Todd Buschur and Debbie Loffing. The exhibit will be on display from June 20 to July 12, 2025, at the Arts Council gallery, located at 119 Miami Street, Urbana.
