Stepping Up Ohio Countywide Meeting

Champaign County, Ohio 2.13.2024 – The Mental Health, Drug & Alcohol Services Board (MHDAS) of Logan & Champaign Counties and the Champaign County Stepping Up presents Stepping Up Ohio Countywide Meeting, taking place virtually on February 28, 2024, from 10:30 am-2 pm, and featuring presentations on mental illness and the criminal justice population.

Champaign County is proud to bring the Stepping Up Ohio team to Champaign County for the first time. The meeting will provide updates on the work Champaign County has done since becoming a Stepping Up county and be a chance for state partners to share information about resources available to Champaign County.

Urbana Elementary School’s First Career Showcase: A Resounding Success

Urbana Elementary School hosted its first-ever Career Showcase on February 1, 2024, drawing in over a hundred parents and children. This pioneering event was timed to coincide with parent/teacher conferences, offering a unique opportunity for students from kindergarten through fifth grade and their families to explore a wide array of career paths and engage with local businesses and educational programs.

The Career Showcase was more than just an event; it was a testament to Urbana Elementary’s commitment to broadening the horizons of its students. By introducing

young learners to the diverse career opportunities that lie ahead, the school is laying a foundation not just for academic success but for life-long learning and curiosity.

Artist/Author Seeks Local Historic Barns to Paint

Robert Kroeger created this painting of a Champaign County barn in 2023.

Robert Kroeger wants to paint your barn. No, he isn’t going to show up at your farm with a couple of five-gallon buckets and a roller. Kroeger, an artist and author who lives in Cincinnati, wants to create paintings of historic barns in the area and tell their stories.

The Champaign County Historical Society will be the beneficiary of his passion.

Sunday Presentation to Feature Inspiring Life of ‘Harmless Farmer’ Andy Detwiler

West Liberty farmer Andy Detwiler, known by YouTube followers as the Harmless Farmer, inspired thousands during his lifetime with his resilience and positivity. At two years old, he lost both his arms in a farming accident. He went on to become a successful farmer, using his feet, remaining shoulder, chin, even teeth, to do anything he needed to.

Detwiler’s mother, Pat Detwiler; widow, Corkey Detwiler; and daughter, Kylie Detwiler, will share his life story in a free

program at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 11, at the Champaign County Historical Society Museum, 809 East Lawn Ave., Urbana.
