Social Services Worker 2 – Investigation/Assessment and Ongoing Units

Overview:
Champaign County DJFS is seeking multiple Social Services Worker 2 professionals to join the Protective Services Unit. These roles focus on Child Abuse/Neglect Investigations, Ongoing Case Management, and Adoption Services. Candidates should be flexible, collaborative, and passionate about supporting children and families through advocacy, permanency planning, and comprehensive casework.

​Key Responsibilities:General Duties (All Workers)

• Answer intake calls and document referrals for Child and Adult Protective Services.
  
• Provide information and referrals for non-abuse/neglect concerns.
  
• Maintain accurate documentation and case files.
  
• Conduct safety and risk assessments; ensure compliance with state and federal laws.
  
• Participate in on-call rotation for emergencies.
  
• Evaluate placement options for children in need of substitute care.
  
• Monitor children’s well-being in various placements.
  
• Refer families to services and monitor progress.
  
• Prepare for and attend court hearings.
  
• Arrange and supervise visitation; provide transportation as needed.
  
• Advocate for families and engage with community providers.
  
• Ensure timely school enrollment and attend educational meetings for children in care.
  
• Maintain accurate and timely data entry for reporting.
  

Investigation/Assessment Duties

• Investigate allegations of child abuse, neglect, or dependency.
  
• Conduct forensic interviews with alleged child victims.
  
• Interview children, parents, custodians, and other contacts.
  

Ongoing Case Management Duties

• Provide intensive case management for children in agency custody and their families.
  
• Monitor progress toward case plan goals.
  
• Make recommendations regarding medical and psychological care for children.
  

Adoption Assessor Duties (if applicable)

• Recruit adoptive homes, conduct home studies, and provide pre- and post-finalization services.
  

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree in human services-related field OR
  
• Completion of at least 60 semester credit hours toward a human services-related degree (must obtain a bachelor’s degree within 5 years of hire).
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related human services field.
  
• Experience in protective services.
  

Compensation:

• Pay Range 7: $47,403.20 – $66,102.40 annually (based on experience).
  
• Steps range from $22.79/hour to $31.78/hour.
