The City of Urbana is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Director of Finance. This key leadership role is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the City and ensuring compliance with all legal, professional, and public service standards.

The Director of Finance works closely with the Mayor, City Council, Clerk of Council, various City Departments, and state and federal agencies. Key responsibilities include managing accounting systems, overseeing collections and disbursements of City funds, preparing financial reports, assisting with budget preparation, and maintaining internal controls. The role also supervises Finance Department staff, manages income tax administration, utility billing, business licensing, and financial operations for Oak Dale Cemetery.

Candidates must hold a degree in accounting, finance, business administration, public administration, or a related field. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible municipal finance experience is preferred, along with a Master’s degree and/or CPA certification. Strong leadership, analytical, and organizational skills are essential.

The starting salary for the position is $115,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Employment is contingent upon passing a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
