City of Urbana Now Accepting Applications for Police Patrol Officer

The City of Urbana is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Patrol Officer with the Urbana Police Division. This opportunity is open to qualified candidates ready to serve the community with dedication, professionalism, and integrity.

Police Patrol Officers in Urbana are responsible for a range of law enforcement duties including responding to service calls, deterring and detecting crime through patrols, investigating complaints, making arrests, and protecting people and property. Officers are also expected to follow up on pending cases and reports, engage in problem-solving, and secure prisoners.

To be eligible for the upcoming civil service examination, applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:

• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Be between the ages of 21 and 69 by the test date
• Possess a high school diploma or GED
• Have vision correctable to 20/20
• Hold a valid driver’s license

Candidates must also pass a series of assessments including a written aptitude test, physical fitness test, background investigation, polygraph, psychological and medical examinations, and a drug screen.

The entry-level written aptitude test will take place at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the Urbana Police Division located at 205 South Main Street. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m. The physical fitness test will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the same location and conclude at the Urbana High School track or the Simon Kenton Bike Trail.
